Rezija Diduhs (45)
loves the fact that there is always something going on in Berlin.
Where do you work?
I am employed by aventa Personalmanagement GmbH and currently work as a Rental Manager at berlinovo GmbH. aventa is an HR service provider that places staff with a variety of clients. Which is how I got my job. My current role is in apartment rentals. It is my job to rent out furnished apartments. So I handle inquiries from potential tenants and support the process through to the conclusion of a rental agreement.
Why did you choose Berlin?
My husband moved to Berlin to take up employment back in 2009. I stayed behind in Latvia with our children for another year. By 2010, he had arranged for us to join him. That is how I came to Berlin.
What do you love about Berlin?
Berlin’s residents are extremely proud of their city. This deep emotion reminds me of home, because where I come from, people are also very proud of their home town. So Berlin immediately felt like “home”. I also love the fact that there is always something going on here. I am a typical city girl.
Who helped you to settle in when you first arrived in Berlin?
Back then, a well-known Turkish family rented an apartment for us. I will never forget that. It was a huge help, for which I am still extremely grateful. It is extraordinary that people are prepared to take such a risk for others.
If you could give someone who’s new to Berlin one tip, what would it be?
Learn the language before you arrive! I came to Berlin without speaking the language. If I could turn back time, I would have learned German in Latvia. Speaking the language in advance is definitely a good tip.
