The logistics industry is one of the Berlin-Brandenburg region’s most important economic sectors. This is reflected by the 200,000 colleagues who are employed in this occupational area, working as couriers, IT software architects, consultants and much more.

As a major hub for European flows of traffic and goods, with excellent road, rail and air links, the capital region has more than 100 larger companies that are active in this field. For example, Deutsche Post DHL, Deutsche Bahnand Kühne + Nagel have subsidiaries in Berlin, making them potential employers.

For your job search, you could also contact the five major freight centres, such as GVZ Westhafen, Berlin Airports and Berlin’s ports, for example, along with Amazon, Rossmann, DM and Zalando, which have settled in the region or are in the process of expanding further.

As well as commercial roles, employment in logistics-specific networks and associations is also a good option. Examples of these include Verband Verkehr & Logistik Berlin und Brandenburg e.V., Vereinigung von Fachleuten der Logistikbranche in der Deutsche Verkehrswissenschaftliche Gesellschaft, and the VDMA (the network and voice of mechanical engineering, Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagebau e.V.).

In terms of research, the capital region also boasts six scientific and research institutions specialising in logistics. The Berlin institutions TU Berlin with its Institute for Technology and Management and the German Aerospace Centre with its Institute of Transport Research, for example, prioritise their research on holistic, customer-integrated logistics networks and the development of sustainable passenger and freight transport systems.

In addition, several Berlin colleges and universities also offer courses in this field. Be it strategic logistics management, global supply chain and operations management or transportation planning and operations – in Berlin, you will find the right course for your preferred specialism.
