Swathi Siddappa (34 years)
likes the surroundings and greenery of Berlin.
Where do you work?
My role is Senior Software Developer and team leader at ASML in Berlin. We produce lithography machines and tools for manufacturing microchips.
In my department we program and develop software applications to support the machines for the EUV and DUV team. Out software allows ASML to measure things such as evenness as well as carry out inspections, visualizations and database analyses.
Why did you choose Berlin?
I came to Berlin for the job with ASML. I am originally from India, but have previously lived and worked in Germany - in Frankfurt am Main to be precise. This job is simply my dream job.
At ASML I am able to expand my technical horizons as the technologies used by the company are being continuously developed and are constantly growing. I am here to boost my career at ASML.
What do you love about Berlin?
Berlin is a great city to live in. I like the surroundings and greenery in my district. My favourite place in Berlin is Grunewald. There I can do sport and enjoy nature.
Berlin also has a really exciting night life. There’s a huge range of entertainment options. And the Brandenburg Gate of course - it is simply iconic.
Who or what helped you to settle in when you first arrived in Berlin?
I had no contacts or friends here when I decided to come to Berlin. ASML supported me throughout the entire relocation process. The company provided a relocation agent, a relocation package and helped with the move from Frankfurt to Berlin. Really great.
After the move was complete, my colleagues here were a great support. They helped me find my way in Berlin.
If you could give a new Berliner a tip, what would it be?
Explore the city, enjoy the neighbourhood and discovered the variety Berlin has to offer! Meet people that have been living here for a while already, but also others who have left their home countries, and learn a little about the city. This will help you improve your communication and quickly create new contacts.
