My job at Astro- und Feinwerktechnik Adlershof GmbH

Josephine (31 years), Industrial Mechanic

What exactly do you do in your company?

I work as an industrial mechanic at Astro- und Feinwerktechnik Adlershof GmbH. We develop and manufacture components and systems for the aerospace industry, such as reaction wheels and small satellites. From design, construction and manufacturing right through to assembly and testing – we offer the entire production chain in-house.

I work specifically on various CNC milling centres in the 3 and 5-axis range. My tasks include equipping the machines and tools, running the components in and then checking the dimensional accuracy, as well as optimising the programming of specified CAM programs. I even program simple components and devices myself on the machine.

On top of this, I am a safety officer for the production area and make sure that occupational health and safety is observed so as to prevent accidents from happening.

What do you love about this job?

From an early age I knew that I wanted to learn a practical trade. I think it’s amazing how a piece of raw material becomes a finished component.

Why did you choose this job at Astro- und Feinwerktechnik Adlershof GmbH in Berlin?

I originally come from the outskirts of Berlin and really wanted to stay close to my family and friends. That's why I never even considered moving away. Of course, that was ideal for the job at Astro- und Feinwerktechnik Adlershof GmbH. I now live and work in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick. I love it here – everything is so lush and green.
