My job at Ehrig GmbH
Ekaterini Stamatoglou (aged 22), administrative assistant and competitive athlete (boxing)
Tell us about your sport!
As a boxer, I train twice a day at the federal sports center in Berlin on Paul-Heyse-Straße with other competitive athletes and my coach, Marcus Abramowski – in other words, around 10 to 12 times a week. I’ve been boxing since I was 11 years old. I’ve been involved in competitive sports for around seven years. When I was younger, I was the German junior champion several times and was privileged to be able to take part in the European and World Championships in my age category.
I receive regular support in my sport from the Olympiastützpunkt Berlin (OSP) (the Olympic training center in Berlin), which includes physiotherapy, massages, medical care, and other regeneration opportunities. For example, the medical staff will take care of me when I have an injury, but they also carry out annual check-ups. The OSP also provides personalized nutrition and career advice.
And how did you come to work at Ehrig GmbH?
It came about through the career advice I received from the OSP. I did my vocational baccalaureate diploma at the bbw Akademie this year and then I had a meeting with the career advisor. We discussed how I wanted to progress in my sport and in my professional career. Following several discussions, we decided that I would look for a part-time job. As a result, I was placed with Ehrig GmbH.
What exactly does your job involve?
I work in the Accessories Sales department as an administrative assistant. Ehrig GmbH is an office systems house. We provide our clients with IT, printing solutions, and copying solutions. In my job, I am responsible for ensuring that our office systems operate properly for clients – in particular the printers and photocopiers. I deal with the toner and ink for these machines, and also the paper. I calculate different prices and send quotes. And when we receive an order, I make sure that it is shipped out as quickly as possible by mail or by courier.
What fascinates you about this job?
What I particularly like about my job is that it’s compatible with my sport. There aren’t many jobs like that. This gives me the opportunity to pursue my passion and to have a potential career for the future. I’m very grateful that I’ve found such a great employer who fully supports me.
