What exactly is your job at Gebr. Tonsor?
I am an interior designer. This job is divided into four subject areas: floor, walls, windows, upholstery. Here at Tonsor, we mainly focus on walls, floor, windows and sun protection. A typical working day can be described as follows: I write offers, advise customers, measure windows and rooms, develop color and living concepts, search for suitable paints and fabrics – to put it in a nutshell, I make rooms look nice. I support commercial and private customers from the first phone call to the last screw or stitch.
What do you find fascinating about your job?
Interior designer is a very creative profession. I got to learn a real craft, that being upholstery, sewing and everything that goes along with that – an exciting craft. I meet new people every day which is very exciting. The most beautiful moment is when the customers get involved with me and my advice. Those shining eyes when the room is finally designed and the customer is satisfied are priceless. Beside that, I find the job very diversified. I see the customer, see the apartment, order the fabric, process it and see how it looks on the window. Where can you the final product that you fashioned yourself nowadays? Jobs like these are rare.
Why did you choose Gebr. Tonsor, a company from Berlin?
In the beginning it was more of a coincidence. I had lived and worked in Stuttgart for 12 years. A colleague changed to my company in Stuttgart from Gebr. Tonsor. Suddenly I heard myself asking intuitively “Say, do they have vacancies in Berlin?”. Two weeks later, I started working here. Mr. Tonsor has supported me from day one. For example, he found an apartment for me, a real dream apartment right in Charlottenburg. The team spirit in the company is great, the two bosses are priceless and the working atmosphere is very warm. Tonsor has become my second family so to speak. If I got stranded on the freeway at 4 a.m. and asked my bosses for help, they would be there for me. I have really locked them in my heart. And Berlin? I like the direct conversation style, the mixture of different cultures and people and the fact that it is not as warm as in Stuttgart. Despite being a big city, it is possible to feel at home in Berlin. I am very happy here.
