What exactly do you do within your company?

I am a Key Account Manager at McMakler. McMakler is a real estate brokerage company that uses modern marketing techniques to optimise the processes of the traditional real estate business in renting and selling properties.

So our customers are people who want to sell or rent out their properties. In doing so, we give them all the assistance you would expect from a real estate agent – property viewings, taking photos, writing property specifications, arranging appointments with prospective buyers or tenants, selecting the best candidates, liaising with the seller or landlord and creating sale or rental contracts, etc. The best part is that, in rental matters, you will get all of this for a fixed price.

As a Key Account Manager, my responsibilities are specifically related to rentals. I work hand-in-hand with large real estate companies that have a large number of residential properties and have tasked us with the brokerage. My daily to-do list usually contains regular contact with our key clients and their employees, assisting our agents on-site and communication with prospective tenants. My day-to-day work also includes business development and new customer acquisition.

What do you find fascinating about this job?

My daily work routine is highly varied. I have contact with lots of people and face new challenges every day. What fascinates me about McMakler is that I was given a lot of responsibility within a very short time. I started at the company in January 2017 as an intern, and within a short time had already taken over my own areas. The hierarchies are very flat. Typical for a start-up! I really like that. Now, I’m a permanent employee, independently take care of my own customers and am often trusted with new tasks. The opportunities for personal development motivated me to work for this company and in this profession.

Why did you choose this job at a Berlin-based company?

I was born here and I love this city. I have spent some time abroad, but I was drawn back to this place. Additionally, Berlin is THE location for start-ups and I definitely wanted to work at a start-up, as I was convinced that at the start of my career path, I would learn a lot more in a short time at a start-up than I would within a large corporation. That’s why there was no reason for me to move away from Berlin. As I had always been intrigued by the prospects of the real estate sector, starting at McMakler was the best thing that could have happened to me.
