MOWEA: Modular wind turbines from Berlin
Wind turbines in the centre of the city? Inconceivable. Until now, at least. We are all familiar with the huge wind farms in rural areas or just off the coast. But you would never see a wind turbine in a city like Berlin. That is changing now. The Berlin company MOWEA has invented small, modular wind turbines that, almost like Lego blocks, are sufficiently adaptable to be mounted on the roofs of the city. It is nothing short of a revolution in the wind energy sector!

MOWEA GmbH is an innovative company that was established in 2016 as a Technische Universität Berlin spin-off and is based in the Pankow district of Berlin. Delivering everything from consulting and engineering to installation, MOWEA develops small, flexible, efficient and needs-based wind energy systems with smart IoT features that are currently used primarily in the industrial sector. The innovation behind MOWEA
Integrating MOWEA wind turbines in an urban setting opens up entirely new perspectives. They enable urban companies such as the operators of industrial and commercial properties or transmission towers (telecommunications) to harness renewable sources to meet their energy requirements. This leads to reduced carbon emissions and energy costs. It also promotes energy generation at local level and therefore independence from external energy sources such as fossil fuels.
The wind turbines have a modular design that makes them simple to configure according to individual requirements. MOWEA wind turbines are assembled according to the Lego principle, which makes them flexible to use. Turbine aerodynamics are optimised for low urban wind speeds, and the systems are fitted with sensors for smart monitoring and control. Their design is equally persuasive!
