Where do you work? 

I work as an assistant to the Managing Directors at WHITEvoid GmbH. WHITEvoid is the only agency of its kind. We are both a creative agency that designs and develops incredible ideas and products, and also an established name in the field of kinetic light technology. Our own brand name Kinetic Lights encompasses all of the winches and light fixtures we develop, which are implemented at a wide range of events. You can marvel at our lights at trade shows, concert tours, or at the Deep Web Performance at the Festival of Lights in Lyon. I know that here, “WHITEvoid” is the watchword. We take empty space and turn it into a three-dimensional experience that won’t be soon forgotten.

My job is a mixture of team and office management. Among other duties, I ensure that we all keep track of the deadlines and schedules for ongoing projects – on the other hand, I support our Head of Personnel Strategy. Together, we plan the company’s future vision and ensure that WHITEvoid shows healthy growth. Motivating the team, recruiting, employer branding, time management – all of these duties are part of my area of responsibility.

Why did you choose Berlin?

I was born in Berlin and moved to Istanbul four years ago, because my husband and I fancied living in a larger city. There, I worked in innovation management for a large corporation. Nevertheless, after some time, I became homesick. I was missing my family. Berlin is simply my home and offers incredible prospects for young and creative workers.

What made settling into Berlin easier for you?

My family and friends. They welcomed me with open arms, which made reintegrating easier. It also helped that I found a new job within a month. Finding a job straight away helped me to re-establish my structures and routines in Berlin.

What do you love about Berlin?

I like the fact that so many different people are living in one place. The multicultural atmosphere influences the people who live here and makes Berlin an open and tolerant city. Moreover, I have to say that the work-life balance in Berlin is much better than in Istanbul, for example. There, I may have only been half an hour away from the sea, but I spend much more time by the water here in Berlin. I love the Spree and the surrounding lakes. I can relax there.

If you could give one tip to a newcomer to Berlin, what would it be?

Don’t be put off by the famous Berlin sneer! The people of Berlin are very friendly. Take the time, and above all, make the time to get to know the city and its residents. Being sneered at now and then is simply part of the Berlin lifestyle and it is rarely something personal. Just be open-minded!
