Where do you work?

I currently work as a proposal and contract management consultant at GASAG AG, the largest regional energy provider in Europe. In my job, I am responsible for calculating natural gas and electricity offers and drawing up special contracts. My fascination is renewed every day, working with different people and finding solutions for the daily challenges in the energy world along with them.

Why did you choose Berlin?

Berlin is colorful, lively and full of energy. Here, every nationality in the world is out in the countless restaurants, bars, exhibitions, theaters and clubs. In addition, Berlin also has many renowned institutions of higher education with a wide variety of disciplines. That was also the reason why I originally came to Berlin. And then the city never ceased to captivate me. I have been living here for almost ten years now and I never want to leave.

Who or what helped you when you first came to Berlin?

When I came to Germany from Bulgaria, it naturally helped me a great deal that my sister had already been living in Berlin for several years. But even at the university, I quickly got to know lots of new people, including, of course, "born-and-bred Berliners" who showed me the city. They made me feel like I belonged. I was home.

What do you love about Berlin?

In Berlin, you can shape your life however you want to. Since there are so many different cultures living in Berlin, you don't have to change yourself. This city gives you the opportunity to develop and remain true to yourself. Here, everyone finds their place, no matter how much money they have in their pocket. I find that fascinating. In addition, Berlin is always beautiful, no matter what the season. From the first moment I arrived, Berlin has reminded me of the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia.

If you could give a new Berlin resident a tip, what would it be?

Once you're here, take the 100 bus and explore Berlin. It's worth it to discover the various neighborhoods – Berlin has many faces. In the summer, you should go up the Teufelsberg and go to Tretpower Park. And if you like fairy tales, definitely go to the Märchenhütte in Berlin-Mitte. They put on fairy tales for adults – it's a beautiful place.

I also recommend you take advantage of Berlin's educational and career development opportunities. Depending on the nature and focus of your job or your education, numerous advice centers at a variety of institutions provide support for education, job and house hunting. Moreover, it is also to your advantage to learn German as quickly as you can. That makes things a lot easier. Come to Berlin and let yourself be enchanted by the city!
